Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has shared his perspective on modern relationships, insisting that love and marriage should not be blamed for the increasing number of broken unions.

Speaking during an interview with BBC News Pidgin, the actor argued that many relationship problems stem from people's motives rather than the institution of marriage itself.

According to Emeka Ike, relationships lose their true value when one partner enters them primarily for financial benefits instead of building a sincere emotional connection.

He maintained that genuine love should be founded on trust, honesty, commitment and mutual respect.

The actor also criticised the growing trend of choosing romantic partners mainly because of their financial status or the material benefits they can provide.

He warned that treating relationships as a means of making money undermines the true purpose of love and companionship.

Emeka Ike stated that while love and marriage are not fraudulent, some individuals have turned relationships into opportunities for personal gain, giving the wrong impression about commitment and family life.

He further advised women not to be influenced by negative relationship advice from individuals whose marriages have failed, urging them instead to focus on understanding, patience and working through challenges with their partners.

According to him, successful relationships require sacrifice, communication and a willingness to support one another through difficult moments rather than focusing solely on financial rewards.

The actor concluded by encouraging couples to preserve the sanctity of relationships by building them on genuine affection instead of material expectations.
