Oyo Receives Two Security Surveillance Aircraft to Boost Crime Fight

The Oyo State Government has officially taken delivery of two security surveillance aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering and improve the fight against crime across the state.

The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday and are expected to enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence collection and rapid response operations for security agencies operating within Oyo State and neighbouring areas.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, the government described the arrival of the aircraft as a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to improve public safety through modern security technology.

According to the commissioner, Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier announced that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria on July 18, 2026, and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force's facility in Lagos before being transported to Ibadan.

Oyelade noted that the state government had assured residents that the aircraft would be delivered before the end of July, adding that the latest development fulfilled that commitment.

He explained that the surveillance platforms would support the operations of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, as well as other security agencies by providing improved aerial monitoring and intelligence needed to combat criminal activities.

Governor Makinde was present at the airport to receive the aircraft upon their arrival.

The acquisition forms part of the state's broader security strategy, which was unveiled in July 2025 when the government announced plans to procure two surveillance aircraft to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies.

The initiative is aimed at improving efforts to tackle kidnapping, banditry and other security threats while enhancing the ability of law enforcement agencies to respond quickly to incidents across the state.

The government expressed confidence that the deployment of the aircraft will significantly improve intelligence-led security operations and contribute to making Oyo State safer for residents and investors alike.
