Kidnapped pupils and teachers from Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after spending more than 50 days in captivity.

The development was confirmed on Friday by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who announced that the victims had been successfully rescued by security operatives.

In a post shared on his official 𝕏 account, Onanuga disclosed that the operation led to the safe recovery of the abducted pupils and teachers.

He also revealed that one of the rescued teachers expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the various security agencies involved in the operation for securing their release.

Although details surrounding the rescue were not immediately disclosed, the announcement marked the end of weeks of uncertainty for the victims' families and members of the affected community.

Couple Also Rescued in Separate Operation
In a related development, a joint security team successfully rescued a couple who had been abducted by suspected kidnappers in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.

The operation involved personnel from the Oyo State Police Command, the Amotekun Corps, community vigilantes and local hunters who worked together to track down the kidnappers.

The rescued victims, Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were freed unharmed after security operatives engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gun battle at their hideout deep inside a forest.

The couple had reportedly been kidnapped on Saturday, July 5, 2026, when about five armed men stormed Tiro Village in Irawo.

According to reports, the attackers fired several gunshots to create panic before forcefully taking the husband and wife to an unknown destination.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered an immediate search-and-rescue operation involving multiple security agencies.

Investigators recorded an early breakthrough during the operation after recovering a Bajaj motorcycle that had earlier been reported stolen and later abandoned in a nearby bush, providing useful clues that assisted the rescue mission.

The successful operations highlight the continued collaboration between conventional security agencies and local security outfits in efforts to combat kidnapping and improve public safety across Oyo State.
