Nigerian-British entrepreneur Nana Otedola has addressed long-standing assumptions about her nationality, stating unequivocally that she is Nigerian and not Ghanaian.
The wife of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola made the clarification in a video conversation with her daughter, Temi Otedola, which has since gained attention on social media.
Responding to speculation about her background, Nana explained that although many people associate her name and appearance with Ghana, her heritage is firmly rooted in Nigeria.
According to her, she hails from the Egba ethnic group in Ogun State and proudly identifies with her Nigerian ancestry.
“To clear the room for everybody, I’m an Egba woman, and that’s the part I’ll gladly claim as a Nigerian. I am not a Ghanaian; my roots are in Abeokuta,” she said.
Nana acknowledged that the confusion surrounding her nationality is understandable, particularly because of her upbringing and life experiences across different parts of the country.
She disclosed that she was born in Kaduna State and spent nearly two decades living in northern Nigeria.
According to her, growing up in Kaduna influenced many aspects of her personality and may have contributed to the assumptions people make about her origin.
“I was born in Kaduna and lived there for almost two decades,” she revealed.
Despite her strong connection to Kaduna, Nana emphasized that her family heritage remains deeply tied to Abeokuta and the Egba people of Ogun State.
Her comments have sparked conversations online, with many social media users expressing surprise at the revelation while others praised her for addressing the speculation directly.
Nana Otedola is widely known as a successful entrepreneur, philanthropist, and matriarch of the Otedola family. She is also the mother of prominent personalities including actress and fashion influencer Temi Otedola, DJ Cuppy, and businessman Fewa Otedola.
The clarification adds a personal dimension to public perceptions of the entrepreneur, who has largely kept details of her background away from the spotlight over the years.
By addressing the issue publicly, Nana said she simply wanted to provide clarity and reaffirm her Nigerian identity while embracing her roots in Abeokuta.
