The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has refuted reports suggesting that students, pupils, and teachers abducted during last Friday’s attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area have regained their freedom.

Police authorities stated that the victims are still being held captive, while security operatives continue coordinated efforts aimed at securing their safe release and tracking down those responsible for the incident.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Ibadan by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.

According to the command, rumours circulating about the rescue of the victims are false and should be disregarded by the public.

The statement explained that intensive operations involving security agencies are ongoing to ensure the safe recovery of the abducted individuals and the arrest of the perpetrators behind the attack.

The police appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations and rescue operations continue.

Authorities also cautioned against the spread of unverified information, warning that misinformation could trigger unnecessary fear, increase tension, and distract security personnel from ongoing operations.

The command stressed the importance of verifying information before sharing it, especially on social media and other public platforms.

Residents were assured that official updates would be communicated as developments unfold, while members of the public seeking accurate information were advised to contact the Police Public Relations Officer or the command’s control room through official channels.
