Peter Obi Claims Three Governors Blocked Planned State Visits

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has alleged that governors in three different states frustrated his attempts to visit their states, raising concerns about what he described as restrictions on his constitutional right to move freely within the country.

Speaking during an interview with The Sun, Obi said he had planned visits to three states but was discouraged from travelling after being informed that the respective governors did not want him to come. Although he did not reveal the identities of the states involved, he questioned why any elected official should prevent a Nigerian citizen from entering any part of the federation.

According to the former Anambra State governor, he was also warned that his safety could not be guaranteed if he proceeded with some of the planned visits. He maintained that such developments are troubling and urged Nigerians to reflect on the implications for democracy and civil liberties.

Obi argued that freedom of movement is guaranteed by the Constitution and should not be influenced by political differences or personal interests. He said no individual should be prevented from interacting with citizens in any state because of political ambition.

The allegation comes months after Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo advised Obi not to visit the state without informing the government in advance for security coordination. That earlier development generated widespread public debate, with differing opinions over whether the governor's remarks were intended as a security precaution or a political warning.

Obi also recently claimed during a podcast appearance that several of his activities have faced resistance from those in positions of authority, insisting that such actions undermine democratic values and the rights of political actors to engage freely with Nigerians.
