Oriire Rescue Shows Nigeria Is Winning War Against Criminals – Agbese

The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria's security agencies following the successful rescue of pupils and teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, the Labour Party lawmaker described the operation as a significant milestone in the country's ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

According to Agbese, the successful rescue demonstrates the growing effectiveness of Nigeria's security architecture and sends a clear message that criminal groups will not be allowed to dictate the nation's security landscape.

He commended President Tinubu for providing leadership in the fight against insecurity and also praised the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, the service chiefs, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security organisations that participated in the operation.

The lawmaker said the rescue reflected improved intelligence gathering, stronger coordination among security agencies and a high level of professionalism displayed during the mission.

Agbese described the successful recovery of all the abducted pupils and teachers as more than just another security operation, saying it represents a powerful demonstration of Nigeria's determination to protect its citizens and confront violent criminal groups.

He added that the achievement reinforces the message that every Nigerian life is valuable and that the country's security institutions possess both the capability and the commitment to tackle insecurity decisively.

The lawmaker also highlighted recent military successes in other parts of the country, pointing to operations carried out under Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Zamfara and Katsina states.

According to him, troops involved in the operation have reportedly foiled planned attacks, neutralised a suspected terrorist commander and recovered weapons as well as other operational equipment from criminal groups.

Agbese further referred to a recent air operation in which about 300 suspected terrorists travelling on motorcycles were reportedly intercepted before they could launch attacks on communities.

He maintained that these achievements are evidence of sustained military pressure against criminal elements and demonstrate that security forces are increasingly taking the initiative in the fight against insurgency and banditry.

Expressing confidence in the ongoing operations, Agbese urged Nigerians to continue supporting the military, police and intelligence agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent attacks and improve security outcomes.

He also encouraged community members across the country to remain vigilant and work closely with security personnel to sustain the progress already recorded.

Addressing insurgents, terrorists and bandits still operating in forests and remote locations, the lawmaker urged them to surrender, warning that the operational momentum now favours the country's security forces.

According to Agbese, every successful rescue operation, every criminal network dismantled and every terrorist commander neutralised brings Nigeria one step closer to achieving lasting peace and security.
