Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the winner of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary election conducted in Edo State.

Atiku defeated former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and businessman Muhammed Hayatu-Deen in the exercise.

Announcing the results at the party’s secretariat in Benin City, the Chairman and Returning Officer of the ADC Primary Election Committee in Edo State, Mabel Adimkwu, said Atiku secured 17,729 votes to clinch victory.

According to the results announced, Amaechi polled 10,116 votes, while Hayatu-Deen received 1,906 votes.

Adimkwu explained that the presidential primary was held across the state on May 25, 2026, with 32,263 registered voters participating in the process based on the Independent National Electoral Commission register.

She further disclosed that accreditation and voting took place across the 192 wards spread across the 18 local government areas of Edo State.

The returning officer commended party members for their participation and described the conduct of the election as peaceful and organised, noting that voters were able to cast their ballots freely.

She subsequently declared Atiku the winner of the Edo State presidential primary after securing the highest number of valid votes.

Reacting to the outcome, the Deputy State Chairman of the party, Sylvester Ewanehi, praised participants and election officials for ensuring a credible and orderly process.

He also urged party members and stakeholders to regard the outcome as a shared success for the party and to remain united ahead of future political activities.
