Former Borno State Governor and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has claimed that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is unlikely to remain with a single political party because of his determination to achieve his presidential ambition.

Sheriff made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television, where he discussed Nigeria's evolving political landscape and the build-up to the 2027 general election.

According to the former governor, Obi's movement across different political platforms is driven by his desire to secure a presidential ticket whenever election seasons approach. He argued that the former Anambra State governor would continue to switch parties if he was unable to realise his political objective within his current platform.

Sheriff recalled that he had expressed a similar opinion during a previous appearance on the television programme, insisting that subsequent political developments had reinforced his earlier prediction.

The former PDP national chairman further questioned Obi's political strategy, maintaining that anyone aspiring to become Nigeria's president must demonstrate a commitment to serving the entire country rather than appearing to focus on the interests of a particular region.

Drawing from his own background as an indigene of Borno State, Sheriff argued that national leadership requires loyalty to Nigeria as a whole and not to any specific ethnic or regional constituency.

He maintained that the country's leaders have worked hard to preserve Nigeria's unity over the years and that anyone seeking the nation's highest office must embrace that same commitment to national cohesion.
Sheriff therefore insisted that political ambition should be guided by a vision that reflects the interests of all Nigerians, rather than what he described as a sectional agenda.
