Nigerian preacher and marriage counsellor, Funke Felix-Adejumo, has advised married men against placing themselves under excessive pressure in an attempt to satisfy their wives, urging them instead to prioritise their health and wellbeing.

Speaking during a message to her congregation, Felix-Adejumo said men should strive to do their best in marriage without feeling compelled to meet every expectation at the expense of their lives.

According to her, women naturally desire improvement and change, making it unrealistic for any man to completely satisfy every expectation.

To illustrate her point, she referred to common beauty practices, noting that many women alter their natural appearance through cosmetics, hairstyles and other enhancements despite how they were created, suggesting that the desire for improvement is part of human nature.

She therefore encouraged husbands to make genuine efforts in their marriages but warned against sacrificing their physical or mental health in the process.

Addressing women, the cleric also stressed the importance of financial independence. She urged wives to build their own sources of income rather than relying solely on money provided by their husbands.

Felix-Adejumo said a woman's personal income should complement, rather than replace, the financial support she receives from her spouse. She encouraged women to aim for a level of financial stability that would allow them to surprise and support their husbands with meaningful gifts.

Sharing a personal example, she revealed that she presented her husband with 61 gifts to celebrate his 60th birthday, describing the gesture as an expression of love made possible through her own resources.

She concluded by encouraging women to pursue economic empowerment, saying marriage should not prevent them from developing their own careers or businesses and becoming financially productive partners in the home.
